A Beautiful Coral Family Room

This beautiful coral family room was designed by Kelley Proxmire of Kelley Interior Design as part of  the D.C. Design House 2016.  The coral color used in this family room is welcoming and inviting. Kelley’s design style for this room is “tailored traditional” and “polished prep”. The space serves as an entertainment area where families can play games, lounge and watch TV,  read, and sip morning coffee.  The family room has six doorways and one window so placement of the furniture was key when designing the room. Kelley selected accent colors of navy blue and white, a great color combination with coral. This room felt like home and I didn’t want to leave.

Design tips:

  • When decorating a large family room, don’t be afraid to use color. Colors like coral can make a room cozy and relaxing.
  • Consider furniture placement and determine the focal point of the room. No entry doors should be blocked. Try to place furniture in a way that creates a transitional space, making it easy to maneuver and functional for entertaining.
  • Show your personality. Display collectibles and souvenirs in your room. They make for great conversation pieces.

  1. Great job! I love the blue and white with the coral. I also like the mix of traditional with contemporary furniture styles. Beautiful room!
